The key point
A green mark is only a clue to part history, while both A/C and engine cooling need attention.

Sifu White explains what happened
Prices, repair times and warranty terms mentioned in the video applied at the time. Ask the workshop about current arrangements.
Outside air or smoke enters this car's cabin because the foam seal in this area has deteriorated. This Lexus came in for air-conditioning repair. While opening the front section because of a compressor problem, Sifu White also found a leaking radiator. It was fortunate that the leak was found early; continued use until the coolant was depleted could be dangerous.
The compressor is faulty and carries a green mark that Sifu believes may indicate a used or dismantled-car replacement. The owner bought the vehicle second-hand. More than a year earlier, the owner had visited Sifu White for inspection. The compressor already showed a problem and a quotation was provided, but the owner returned only after more than a year.
The owner now complains that the air-conditioning is not cold and asks us to check it again. The compressor is indeed making a rough noise. After dismantling, we can see that many system parts, including the cooling coil and piping, were previously replaced or altered. Each component and connection must be inspected so that future replacements use the correct specification.
If an original part is unsuitable because of availability or aged stock condition, we source a good OEM alternative and choose the best option for the customer. The foam seals have deteriorated, and someone previously used cloth as a substitute, allowing outside air into the cabin. Several brackets are also broken. Damaged components must be restored or replaced with the correct parts.
What to compare before repairing or replacing a part
A similar shape, a logo or a seller’s use of “original”, “OEM” or “recon” does not establish suitability on its own. Model, year, engine configuration, part number and connections need matching. Supply traceability, actual condition and warranty terms are separate checks. New components still need inspection before and after installation, while used components need particular attention to their history and the basis on which they have been tested.
The value of a component repair also depends on the assembly’s internal condition and the availability of suitable repair parts. An external clutch fault can require a different solution from internal wear or contamination. Compare labour, related system work, the possibility of having to dismantle the assembly again and written coverage as well as the part price. Prices, turnaround times and warranties mentioned in a historical video do not automatically apply to another vehicle.
Why hot weather or idling can reveal a cooling problem
Air-conditioning has to move cabin heat outside. Hot weather and sun-heated seats and trim increase the cooling load, while airflow through the condenser affects heat rejection. Airflow conditions change between driving and standing still. “Warm at idle, colder while moving” is therefore a useful clue, but it does not prove a fan failure without testing the fan, refrigerant circuit and relevant operating conditions.
Assessment can include condenser and radiator condition, fan operation, engine-cooling data and refrigerant specification. Some vehicles change A/C operation when engine or other protection conditions are active. Vent temperature also depends on ambient conditions, humidity, recirculation and fan speed. A reading from one video is not a universal pass mark for every car. Meaningful before-and-after comparisons should record comparable test conditions.
What to tell the workshop about your own car
You do not need to guess a part name first. A clear description of what actually happens is often more useful for reproducing the complaint than requesting a particular replacement.
- Bring earlier quotations, part numbers and warranty records.
- Compare idling, driving, midday and evening behaviour.
- Include the model, year, recent repairs and what changed before or after the symptom began.
Questions owners ask
Is buying a cheaper part and paying for fitting always cheaper?
Compare the total cost and who handles a problem. Incorrect fitment, a defective part or repeat dismantling can erase the price saving. Confirm compatibility, inspection and after-sales arrangements before buying.
What vent temperature counts as normal?
Use the vehicle specification and test conditions. A video reading is a case observation, not a universal standard independent of ambient conditions, fan speed and running time.
